Embassy and consular legalisation

Countries that are not party to the Hague Apostille Convention require full legalisation: the document is first authenticated in Malta and then legalised by the embassy or consulate of the destination country.

The chain usually involves the issuing authority or a notary, the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, and finally the embassy or consulate — which may be located in Malta or in another country. Each mission has its own forms, fees, translation rules and opening hours.

We manage the whole chain for you: certified translation into the required language, authentications, appointments, embassy fees and secure return of your documents.

We regularly handle legalisation for commercial documents (certificates of incorporation, good standing, invoices, certificates of origin) as well as personal and academic documents.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need an apostille or full legalisation?

It depends on the destination country. If it is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille is enough. If not, full consular legalisation is required. Tell us the country and we will confirm the exact procedure.

The embassy is not in Malta. Can you still legalise my document?

Yes. Many countries cover Malta from an embassy in Rome or another capital. We coordinate the submission and the return of your documents.

Do commercial documents follow the same process?

Commercial documents often require extra steps, such as certification by the Malta Business Registry or the Malta Chamber of Commerce before Ministry and embassy legalisation. We prepare the full chain.
